November 15 – Release Day for “Her Italian Aristocrat”

Release day for my debut novel, Her Italian Aristocrat, is November 15th (tomorrow!) and I couldn’t be more excited. It’s a book close to my heart for many reasons.

I was on a business trip to the Marche region of Italy several years ago and staying in the gorgeous hill town of Macerata.

The weather was hot. I mean real, high summer hot, and following a 24-hour international flight (Melbourne – Bangkok – Rome – Ancona) and a lengthy bus trip, my ankles finally called halt. They’d had enough. It was as if every complaining cell in my body converged in that area and swelled my normally slim ankles to salami shapes.

The doctors in the small hospital thought I had DVT. But that was after close on an hour of sign language complete with miming a landing plane. Because just about no one in this out of the way but very beautiful place could speak English. So I was consigned to a bed to wait for an ultrasound in the morning.

Over the course of the evening I was astounded at the comings and goings in the room. In the next bed was an elderly Italian woman and I think her whole family must have visited that night. I myself had a visitor at midnight, the lovely receptionist from the hotel, bearing an espresso and a pastry for me as if it was the most natural thing in the world. The room finally fell quiet around 1am when the last of the old lady’s visitors left.

As I lay in bed my mind drifted. What would it be like if a drop-dead gorgeous man, better still an aristocrat from one of the beautiful palazzos I’d seen earlier in the day, was to visit his old aunt and come to my rescue?

And so my story began…

I love the sound of your story – can’t wait to see it out in print!
I wouldn’t have minded an Italian aristocrat – a young and gorgeous one, of course! – to have visited me in hospital. Nothing better to keep your mind occupied!
    Congratulations on tomorrow’s release.

  3. Vivid imagination, all right! Who else lies in a hospital bed in a strange city where no one speaks English and dreams about hunky aristocrats? Oh, probably every romance writer in the world. Thanks for dropping by, Angela.

  4. You’ve made me long for a trip to Italy! And if I happened to fall over a gorgeous aristocrat along the way, I don’t think I’d mind even if it led to a hospital visit!! Can’t wait for launch day…

  5. Hi Louise,
Congratulations on the release of Her Italian Aristocrat. Mega sales I am sure. The swollen ankles were worth it now that it has led to such a great story and publication.

    Best wishes

    Margaret

  8. Oh, what a wonderful way to get inspiration, Louise. I love it! I can’t wait to read this story, and try to guess how much of your own experiences you’ve used (do the swollen ankles make it on the page?)
And congratulations on a beautiful webpage and blog. Very elegant.

  9. Good luck with the sales. I will be one of the first to buy. I think that I should also get part of the commission as for my 6 years of secondary school, I was usually called either Louise Reilly or Denise Reynolds! PS Was it DVT??

  10. I’m with Jaye, can’t wait to read ‘Her Italian Aristocrat’! Love the story of the inspiration behind it. If an aristocrat didn’t turn up to rescue you, at least you got nice coffee and a pastry! Happy release day, Louise! X

  11. Oh Louise what a marvellous story. I would have adored that! (Though not the ankle swell. I’ve been through that on a long flight too, and it’s not funny.) You probably know I’m an Italophile. And a bit of an Italianaristo-phiIe. Can’t wait to read your book! Oh, and I do like the cover. Very classy. xx

  12. Congratulations on the release of your book, Louise. I love hearing the story behind your inspiration, and I can’t wait to read it. I also love the cover. It’s beautiful 🙂
